Club Situation Update

There is good news and there is bad news. Let’s start with the good news.
Mr. Marek Vit, whom the majority owner of Bohemians Praha, Mr Böhm (photo), appointed to the managing director position, left the club after 20 days. The consensus among fans was that his departure was 20 days too late. Mr. Vit (a convict whose jail term was temporarily halted due to health reasons) did not deliver on any of his ludicrous promises. He laid blame for his failure squarely on fans whose “negative reaction to his appointment scared away sponsors that he was going to bring into the club.” Yeah, right!
And now, for the bad news. Before departing, Mr. Vit managed to pocket for his troubles 170.000 Czech crowns from the club’s treasury. Mr. Böhm does not seem to mind.

Probably the best player the last season, Ondřej Szabo, was traded to the first league team of Teplice. The trouble is that nobody knows who orchestrated this trade for which Bohemians allegedly received 1 million Czech crowns. They paid 2,5 times that amount when they acquired Szabo years ago. Bravo to whoever is responsible for this brilliant move!

A while back, one of the club’s dissatisfied creditors applied to the Czech Football Associations to have all player transfers into the club blocked until his demands are met. The Czech Football Association complied with this request. Mr. Böhm assured the club’s management and fans that this is a minor problem that will be solved. In the meantime, the club’s management dealt away some of the best players during the summer break to get much needed cash. The management, in co-operation with the coach (Mr. Uhrin), brought in nine new players as a replacement. The team, including the newcomers, performed remarkably well in pre-season matches. However, the reinforcement players could not be registered as the problem with the disgruntled creditor had not been solved. The new players were finally told last week to return to their original clubs or look for an employment elsewhere.

The team’s coach, Mr. Dusan Uhrin jr., has been left in an unenviable position. He does not have enough players and the club does not have a farm (reserve) team. The only solution is to fill holes in the squad by fielding juniors (under 18). Those of you who have played any sport can appreciate the difficulty Mr. Uhrin is facing, as the difference between junior and senior competition level is too large.

The club’s majority owner, Mr. Böhm, is said to be too busy to look after the club. Our eyes are turning skywards – is there any hope out there?
