Match review: Bohemians – Plzeň (Pilsen) 1:1 (0:0)

For the last game of the autumn season, Bohemians welcomed a team from the city that is well known for its beer. This was not to be an easy game as Plzeň (better known abroad as Pilsen) is in hot pursuit of one of two top positions assuring a promotion to the first league. The game also marked a return of the former popular captain of Bohemians, Michal Petrouš, to Ďolíček.

Bohemians did not waste any time and started to press Plzeň right from the opening whistle.  However, none of their chances brought a goal.  The more experienced team of Plzeň took over the control of the game later on.  Kolář in the goal had to be at his best to prevent Plzeň from scoring.

Plzeň stepped up its effort in the second half and it paid off – Zakopal’s header after a corner kick gave Plzeň a lead.  Kangaroos did not quit and their enthusiastic performance was rewarded by a goal when Matuszny, after sneaking by three opponents, took a shot that Zakopal misdirected into his own net.

The next few weeks will be crucial for the future of Bohemians.  There will be negotiations with owners of the first league team of Opava and perhaps other suitors.  Let’s keep our fingers crossed...
