What they said...

After placing respectably second in the traditional Christmas football tournament of veteran football teams while playing against much younger teams, these former Bohemians football stars shared with us their feelings about the current situation of Bohemians.

Antonín Panenka (Age 56, the living symbol of Bohemians, a player that is born only once in a generation, midfielder. Represented Czechoslovakia 59 times, scored 17 goals.) “I have to admit that it is difficult for me to talk about it. The situation that Bohemians are in is not peachy. Nobody knows what the future holds. I wish myself, all fans and players a stabilization of the situation. It would be nice to have finally our own stadium even if it is built with the help of a municipal office. We have to get back where we belong, i.e., in the first division. If that happens, it will be easier to clear our reputation that has suffered some damage lately. Bohemka will survive, however, I would not want to see the club’s centennial while it is in bankruptcy.”

Tibor Mičinec (Age 46, forward. Represented Czechoslovakia 7 times, scored 1 goal)

“I think that it will take a while before Bohemka picks itself up and returns where it belongs - in the first division. I wish Bohemka would play again the same way as we played when we were at our best. I hope that it will happen one day soon. I follow up the current situation from the daily news. I am interested in it because I am a kangaroo at heart. I hope that everything will turn out alright.”

Karol Dobiaš (Age 57, defense. Represented Czechoslovakia 67 times, scored 6 goals)

“We know that the Bohemians situation is bad. There is a simple reason for it. People who are currently running the club wanted it only for publicity purposes. Other than that, I don’t see why they bought it; they have no money for salaries and current expenditures. It would be better if Messrs. Vejsada and Křížek sold the club to somebody who has the money. There is nobody out there who will invest money in the club while these two people are still around. I believe that when they leave, Bohemka will be able to celebrate its centennial.”

Editor’s note: Karol Dobiaš was dismissed from his post of an assistant coach one year ago by Mr. Vejsada. He is currently involved in a legal dispute with Mr. Vejsada over the amount of a severance pay.
