Demise of Bohemians Praha

Below is a summary of events that affected the football club Bohemians Praha recently. The events are listed in chronological order.

28.1.2005
It is announced that negotiations between Mr. Křížek (current owner of Bohemians) and Mr. Kristek regarding the purchase of the club were not successful.

Mr. Křížek, citing mental exhaustion, steps aside and hands all the shares of Bohemians Praha to his sidekick, Mr. Vejsada.

29.1.2005
Mr. Vejsada, having taken the reins of the club once again, goes public announcing his plans to withdraw the club from the second division. He also claims to have contacts with an unnamed third division club that would be willing to be re-named to Bohemians and play the following season in Ďolíček.

As the deadline for player transfers is quickly approaching (January 31, 2005), Bohemians football players are told to look for another job elsewhere. The team captain Obermajer accepts a long standing offer from the first division team of České Budějovice.

The team plays its last game of the Tipsport Cup against Slavia Praha. Despite the loss of 5:0, fans applaud their players for one last time and solemnly display the huge Bohemians flag with a mourning band over it.

More players leave the team. Huňa, Klesa, Podrazký a Lesák join the first division Příbram, Strnad heads to the second division Kladno and Matuszny goes to Poland.

Bohemians receive very little compensation in return, if any. The only stipulation is that clubs that these players join must pay them money owed to them by Bohemians.

31.1.2005
Mr. Vejsada changes his tune. Now he claims that he wants the team to finish the season (there are stiff penalties for withdrawing the team from competition before the season is over). He claims to have negotiated with yet another unknown investor who is willing to finance the rest of the season.

1.2.2005
A judge starts bankruptcy proceedings against the football club of Bohemians Praha by appointing a bankruptcy trustee, Mr. Vladimír Huml. Mr. Huml is now in charge.

3.2.2005
The disciplinary committee of the Czech Football Association calls Mr. Huml (accompanied by Mr. Vejsada) to their meeting to inquire about non-payments of debt to other “football subjects” (other football clubs, former players and coaches). The committee punishes Bohemians by deducting another three points from the second division standing. Its chairman chastises Mr. Huml for his remark that the committee’s actions are tantamount to kicking a corpse.

4.2.2005
Only nine players remain, three of them goalkeepers: Raba, Kolář, Rodinger, Prošek, Zahradník, Vyskočil, Janák, Hanus, and Třasák. All other players found employment elsewhere. Třasák could have been among them, but his transfer was scuttled by Mr. Vejsada, who demanded too much money for the services of the much dependable defenseman.
