Fans ban together to try and help save Bohemians soccer club

PRAGUE- Fans of the Prague soccer club Bohemians have decided to fight against the end of the club, which was banned from the second league two weeks ago because of its bankruptcy and formed the Bohemians Fans' Team (DFB), which should become the new basis of the new club.

The immediate goal is for the Kangaroos, as the team is fondly called, to play in the Bohemia Soccer League next year, the third league in the Czech soccer hierarchy.

The DFB was officially founded on Monday. fans donate 1,000 crowns to join and can then add as much as they want. If the project fails, members are guaranteed to receive 99 percent of what they give in return.

Currently, the DFB has 146,000 crowns. Actors, well-known figures and even former players, such as Czech national team member Martin Jiranek and Slovak stars Kamil Contofalsky and Karol Kisel have contributed.

"Above all else, we want to help save Bohemians' historical continuity," head of the DFB Antonin Jelinek said.

"We have nothing to lose and we will do everything we can to help save the club. We are loyal fans and have no ulterior motives. We only want what is good for the club," DFB control commission member Milan Simacek said.

Antonin Panenka, the greatest player in the history of Bohemians, said that this group honestly simply wants to save the club and he hopes they succeed in solving the problems of the club's multi-million crown debts.

The DFB plans to meet with Bohemians bankruptcy receiver Vladimir Huml and sign a contract to buy the rights to participation in the leagues and registration of current players, including youth teams.

The DFB also hopes to negotiate with creditors to lower the 15 million crowns it owes and to reduce the three million crown fine owed to the Czech soccer Association (CMFS) for its insolvency that caused it to drop out of the second league.
