This was a weekend full of action and fun as collection efforts are gathering steam.<br /> A benefit concert for Bohemians in the Balbinka poetic pub attracted many fans of Bohemians as well as fans of other clubs that wanted to have some fun and at the same time help the DFB resurrection efforts. And fun they had! The concert started at 3 p.m. and continued until the wee hours of the morning. Scheduled performances by many well known artists were complemented by impromptu performances by walk-in artists. The atmosphere can only be described by one word - fantastic. As the saying goes, a picture is worth thousand words - peek here http://www.balbinka.cz/indexE.html, click on Photos and scroll down: The final tally: 17.600 Czech crowns collected.
The next entertaining collection effort took place on Sunday morning when football stars of yesteryear dusted off their considerable skills to amuse 1000 fans who came to the stadium in Xaverov. The game was played in the format North vs. South (i.e., Sparta & Dukla vs. Bohemians & Slavia). There were no dull moments in the match, starting with a penalty shot on which Panenka (South, Bohemians) passed the ball to Mičinec (South, Bohemians) who opened the score for the South team. Ivan Hašek, the former Sparta and national team star, scored three goals for the North team. When it seemed that the North team will prevail, František Jakubec (South, Bohemians) tied the score on a long cannon shot in the upper corner of the net. Final score: North vs. South 4:4. The final tally: 60,000 Czech crowns collected.
This weekend saw the total collected amount pass the 2 million mark; it currently stands at 2.1 million.
