The game against Střížkov was a prestigious one for Bohemka for several reasons. The former president of Bohemka, Michal Vejsada, who brought the club to bankruptcy, found an asylum in Střížkov. Not only that, he re-named the Střížkov club Bohemians Praha. Although the Czech Football Association issued a directive prohibiting Střížkov from using the Bohemians name, Střížkov received a temporary court injunction against the directive and continues its use of the Bohemians name. That did not endear it to the real Bohemka fans who attend Bohemians 1905 games in thousands whereas Střížkov’s average home attendance is 100 - 150 fans and family members. And while we are at statistics, here’s one more piece of information from official sources - since the start of the third league 2005./2006 season, there were 56 359 fans in attendance in total; 33 587 of them saw Bohemians 1905 games; only 22 762 people saw all the rest of the games.
Expecting a large attendance, Střížkov moved the game from its small stadium in the suburbs of Prague to the Strahov stadium (where Slavia plays its first division games). The fans of Bohemians 1905, tired of Střížkov’s games with Bohemka’s name, organized a walk prior to the game. The purpose of the walk was to show public that there is only one Bohemka with thousands of loyal fans. Despite an early morning start, the walk was a resounding success with hundreds of fans of all ages participating.
The game itself was a less exciting affair than fans expected. Střížkov was a better team in the early going, however, Bohemka took over and was clearly better for the rest of the game. It seemed that Střížkov played to achieve a tie, staying back, not hurrying. Bohemka had a few good chances but the Lady Luck was not on Bohemka’s side. When it seemed that the game was heading to a goalless draw, Střížkov’s Šisler wound up and fired from behind the box a beautiful shot that was beyond Charvát’s reach. With only a few minutes left, Bohemka stepped up the pressure and it paid off - Lukáš stuffed the ball in the net from a close distance.
While the victory would have been nice, everybody was happy with a tie in the end.
