This was the first point loss for the Liberec junior team at home this season. So Bohemka should be happy to steal one point from Liberec, right? Wrong! Dead wrong.
This is how one of the LIberec fans described the match on the Liberec web site: “I don’t think I will see any time soon what I have witnessed today during the first half of the match between our junior team and Bohemians 1905. Bohemka could have scored ten goals, they hit posts, goalkeeper; their fans were in total disbelief. Second half was boring. Thank God for one point! Their fans kept on cheering their team all the game, great atmosphere. Not even a hint of violence.”
Bohemka played a great game in the first half. LIberec threatened only from corner kicks. Other than that, Bohemka ruled. However, one scoring chance after another was wasted. As the legendary coach of Bohemians, late Tomáš Pospíchal used to say, the football knows no logic.
Although LIberec played a much stronger game in the second half, limiting Bohemka to only a few chances, LIberec did not manage even a single shot at Bohemka’s goal. Since there was no one on Bohemka team who could score a goal, the game ended in a scoreless tie.
The game had an interesting foreplay which may result in legal action. The Liberec team management , stating a concern about the safety of fans in view of events in Náchod, raised the admission fee for visiting fans to an unheard of sum of 200 Czech koruna (CZK) while Liberec fans were charged the customary 30 CZK. Bohemka management protested this bonehead move, pointing out that this action had done nothing for attracting fans in the stands and was discriminatory in nature. Discouraged by this move, only 150 Bohemka fans travelled to Liberec to create a home stand environment for their team (Liberec fans were inaudible during the whole game). In the end, Bohemka fans were charged “only” 100 CZK instead of advertised 200 CZK. Nonetheless a legal action by the DFB (Bohemians Supporters’ Trust) against Liberec is being considered.
