Varnsdorf - Bohemians 1905 1:3 (1:1)

Not taking into account the forfeit victory in the 7th round in Náchod/Deštná, it took Bohemka the whole autumn season to bring home three points from their opponent’s field.  However, these three points could not have come at a better time.  After a home victory over the third league leading team Prachatice, Bohemka travelled to north Bohemia to play Varnsdorf, the team that was sitting in second place in the standings, behind Prachatice, before this game.  It was not going to be easy, but everybody on the team was determined to do everything for a win; especially after learning that Prachatice lost two valuable points the day before, having only tied Čáslav at home 0:0.

Coach Busta made a gutsy decision to insert the newly acquired offensive midfielder, Tomáš Kuchař, into a starting roster, thus breaking an unwritten rule about not changing the winning lineup from the previous game.  This move did not look that good in the early stages of the game as Varnsdorf poured it on.  Within the first ten minutes of the game, two of their shots stamped the crossbar.  Bohemka shook off an early lethargy and countered in kind.  However, fans had to wait for the first goal until the 36th minute when Lukáš sent Bohemka into the lead after a corner kick.  Unfortunately, Varndorf evened up the score just before the half time on a shot from behind the box by Čapek.

Both teams tried to get an upper hand in the second half of the game.  The decisive moment came in the 67th minute with Strnad’s arrival on the field.  At that moment, Bohemka switched to a higher gear offensively and left Varnsdorf behind in the dust.  First Strnad set up Slezák for the second goal and then he finished his marvelous performance by scoring the third goal himself.

After the game, the Varnsdorf’s coach expressed his satisfaction with the level of play that both teams displayed by comparing it favourably to the level of play in the first league.  Coach Busta was happy not only with the win, but also with the fact that his team did not give Varnsdorf any chance to get back into the game after scoring the second goal.

With one game left in the autumn season, Bohemka is trailing the leading team of the third league, Prachatice, by 8 points.  Bohemka will play the last third division game this year in Ďolíček on Sunday, November 20, at 1:30 p.m. against Strakonice.
