Bohemians 1905 - Strakonice 3:1 (2:0)

The last game of the autumn season attracted another huge crowd to &#270;olí&#269;ek.&nbsp; Even the cold weather could not discourage Bohemka fans from coming out.&nbsp;<br /> Speaking of the weather, the Saturday&rsquo;s snowfall had put the game in jeopardy.&nbsp; The club&rsquo;s management issued a call to fans to help out with the snow removal.&nbsp; Even coach Busta was hard at work removing the snow.&nbsp; Thanks to all volunteers who helped out both on Saturday and Sunday, field conditions at the game time were quite good. &nbsp;

Bohemka was a favourite team to win the match against Strakonice.  However, although Strakonice are languishing in the bottom part of the third league standings, it is always dangerous to assume that an opponent will roll over and play dead.

Coach Busta did a good job of preparing his players for the game.  They came out strongly and decided the outcome of the game in the early minutes.  First, it was the newly returned Tomáš Kuchař who chipped the ball smartly from a free kick behind the Strakonice defense and veteran Slezák, expecting the pass, did not have any problem to open the score.

Strakonice did not have enough skill to match Bohemka’s play at this stage of the game.  Their defense made a few mistakes under pressure, one of which resulted in the second goal.  Strnad took possession of the ball in the middle of the field and sneaked through the Strakonice defense.  Face to face with the goalkeeper, he made a move and stuffed the ball into an empty net.

The game seemed to be out of reach for Strakonice, and Bohemka fans started to visualize more goals in Strakonice’s net.  But as the old saying goes, don’t count your chickens before they hatch.  The field quality started deteriorating, and that is always an advantage for the defending team.  Moreover, as if satisfied with the early lead, Bohemka let up a bit and let Strakonice come back.  Luckily, it took Strakonice a long time to realize that they could do some damage.  When they finally scored, there was not much time left in the game.  Bohemka turned it on one more time and scored an insurance goal in the last minute of the game.

After the game, both fans and players showed their mutual appreciation.  Players spontaneously tossed their jerseys into the crowd.

Following a disappointing loss to Břevnov, Bohemka was 13 points behind the leading team, Prachatice.  Then Bohemka beat Prachatice at home, went to Varnsdorf and beat the second team in standings.  That, combined with Prachatice poor results, reduced the gap between Prachatice and Bohemka from 13 points to 6 points.  That’s why there is much more optimism around Ďolíček these days.  The management speaks openly about going for a promotion to the second league already this season.  And fans are certainly not opposed to it.
