Under different circumstances, this would be another good result that we could brag about. However, the whole match was overshadowed by a serious injury suffered by one of the most promising Bohemians newcomers, Bartolomej Gonos. The 21-year old midfielder suffered a broken right leg after a brutal tackle by one of the Kladno players. Both his fibula and tibia were broken and he had to undergo surgery to repair the damage. Unfortunately for Bartolomej and Bohemians, his season ended before it even began. His recovery is estimated to take about three months, assuming there are no complications.
Despite the fact that Bohemka players were understandably shaken after their teammate had to leave the field very early in the second half on a stretcher, they held on to a victory over a leading team of the second division, Kladno. Overall, Bohemians were a better team, and had more chances. Their goaltending was reliable; they were solid on defense and dangerous around Kladno’s net. Slezák scored the only goal of the game (making it look very easy) after an outstanding pass in to the open by Gonos. As mentioned above, we have to look forward to seeing more from Gonos until the autumn season 2006.
Bohemka will play another preparation game on Wednesday, February 22 in Hradec Králové against the local second division team.
