It was known before the game that a win would assure Bohemka the next round game at home against the first division Teplice. This scenario must have been very intriguing, especially for Karel Rada who was tossed on the scrap heap by Teplice after having been a team captain and serving them well for four years. The game started with Bohemka showing better football skills against the fourth division opponent. Already in the 9.minute of the game, the referee Kocourek did not hesitate to call a penalty shot against the home team whose name could be used as a tongue twister. Karel Rada took the ball and executed a chip shot in the middle of the goal a la Panenka. The only difference was that the home goalie was not fooled by Rada’s attempt, did not dive, and waited for the ball to sail every so slowly into his arms. Mr. Rada, Panenka you ain’t!
The home team played a good defensive game, helped by the narrow ground whose surface reminded of a freshly ploughed farm field. Bohemka struggled; crisp passing was a problem. The only danger for the home goalie came from headers.
Going into the second half of the match, coach Busta made one change and, soon after, a few more in an attempt to re-gain the initial momentum. While the home team was visibly waiting for the end of the game and a penalty shoot-out, Bohemka stepped up the pressure. Bohemka fans liked newcomer Held whose energetic approach to the game was refreshing. However, cracking the home team’s defence was an elusive task. Until 2 minutes to the end, that is. That’s when the centre defender Lukáš jumped the highest and his header ended in the net.
There was a big sigh of relief after the goal was scored. The game proved once again that Bohemka has problems playing against opponents that concentrate on defence. Thank goodness for the final result.
