This is a surprisingly good result against a strong team. Both teams decided to field those players from their A teams that needed more playing time. The remaining positions were taken by players who likely spent most of their playing time in B teams. The difference between both teams’ roster does not need any elaboration. Sparta, the Czech champion many times over, has a budget that dwarfs many first division teams, let alone Bohemka’s. Their starting line-up included some well known players, e.g., M.Hašek, Matušovič, Došek, and the Swiss national team player Lustrinelli. Bohemka’s coach Kostelník also fielded some players from the A team, but for the most part, B team players were given a chance. In fact, Bohemians played the second half of the game entirely with their B team.
Sparta struck first, Matušovič scored on a disputable penalty shot. Bohemians tied the score almost immediately - Kulvajt scored after being beautifully set up by I.Hašek. Bohemka managed to take a lead in the second half on a low shot by the young center defender, Škoda. Sparta finally tied the score 4 minutes before the game’s final whistle - Lustrinelli headed the ball in the net after a corner kick. Spectators must have been satisfied - they witnessed an interesting game with quite a few scoring chances at both ends.
If anything, this was an opportunity for young Bohemka players to prove to themselves that, regardless how strong opponent they face, no game is lost before it starts.
