It does not get any better than this. The last game of the autumn season turned into a celebration of all that is good about football.<br /> The early start of the game and rainy weather did not discourage Bohemians fans from participating in the “Walk for Ďolíček”. This walk was supposed to express their love for the good old field called Ďolíček that is rumoured to be considered for an apartment building development (more on this subject later in a separate article). Even the weather smartened up. It stopped raining which was appreciated by close to 1000 participants who walked all the way from Ďolíček to the site of the game in another Prague district of Žižkov.
However, before getting the walk under way, all the participants bid a fond farewell to the Bohemians management and players who embarked on a trip from Ďolíček to Žižkov on board of a historic tram (or streetcar - take your pick). Needless to say that this unusual mode of transportation did not go unnoticed by the media.
Although the capacity of Žižkov stadium is listed as 4600, by removing some seats the capacity was increased to 4800. The extra 200 tickets were donated by Viktoria Žižkov to Bohemians. The proceeds of the sale went to a new account called Ďolíček.
If you have a feeling that the relationship between these two clubs is closer than usual, you are right. After all, it was in the darkest time for Bohemians when Viktoria made an unselfish offer to a re-born Bohemka to play its games at the Žižkov stadium for a year without charge. Viktoria’s fans also made a financial contribution to the Bohamians Supporters’ Trust. And last, but not least, the president of Bohemians 1905, Mr. Steinbroch, used to be the president of Viktoria Žižkov. No wonder there were no fights in the stands, just old fashioned, good natured cheering and teasing.
The field was soaked after a long rain and the playing conditions did not get any better as the game progressed. No wonder that fans did not see any football ballet, just a battle for every inch of the field. The outcome of the game did not seem to matter that much, although Bohemians fans were very happy with a tie with the leading team of the second league. Žižkov had more chances to score but Bohemians played with determination and in the end the final score was fair. Viktoria scored first on a header from a corner kick. Bohemka equalized shortly afterwards, taking advantage of a miscommunication between Žižkov’s goalie and one of the defenders.
Fans were in a festive mood even after the game. Many of them made pub owners happy as they descended in droves on local drinking holes. All in all, it was a marvelous day.
