Midfielder Jiří Rosický, facing yet another major knee surgery, decided to end his football career instead. The older brother of the captain of the Czech national team, Arsenal’s Tomáš Rosický, had had more than his share of health problems throughout his career. Jiří’s talent took him at the age of 18 from Sparta Prague to Atletico Madrid where he suffered the first of many serious leg injuries that followed later. He was a member of the Czech national Under 21 team at the time. Having spent four years in Spain, he then continued in his career in Austria, playing for two years for Bregenz. After his return to his homeland, he played again for Sparta Prague, later moving on to Jablonec.
Following in the footsteps of his father (also Jiří) who joined Bohemians late in his career, he joined the newly formed Bohemians 1905 football team in the summer of 2005. His skills not only added a much needed experience to the newly born team, but his well recognizable name also brought an aura of instant respectability to Bohemians 1905.
Jiří will join an international sports agency ISM as a manager. We would like to thank Jiří for his contribution to the success of Bohemians 1905 and wish him all the best in his new endeavours.
