HFK Olomouc – Bohemians 1905 1:3 (0:2)

This was a match whose result could, but did not have to, give an indication which of these two teams would end up in the first league.  In the end, it was our beloved Kangaroos that in front of TV cameras and sell-out crowds celebrated wildly their promotion to the Gambrinus league, as the Czech first league is called.

With Adam out with a mandatory suspension after 4 yellow cards and with Slezák still sidelined with a broken arm, coach Busta had a challenging task to put together a quality midfield for this most important game.  He solved the problem with an unexpected move – stopper Pávek was nominated as a defensive midfielder and only 17-year old Morávek, who has never played for the first team, was given the task of being the team’s playmaker.  It was a brilliant move as Morávek performed faultlessly and with flair rarely seen from players his age.

Bohemians delivered the knockout punch right after the opening bell.  30 seconds into the game, Bálek pounced on a loose ball after an individual attempt by Kotyza and scored the first goal of the game.  Fans were ecstatic.  The players continued controlling the game, not allowing hapless Olomouc any scoring chances.  On the contrary, Bohemka’s attacks were ever so dangerous.  While the first goal came early in the first half, the second one came late – Lukáš headed home after a corner kick just seconds before the first half of the game ended.

When the young debutant Morávek made it 3:0 for Bohemka early in the second half, it was time to start celebrations.  Olomouc still pressed and even scored a goal, but it was a case of too little, too late.

Bohemians will play their last game on Saturday, June 16, 2007 in Ďolíček against Viktoria Žižkov, another Prague based team.  With both teams assured of their participation in the Gambrinus league next season, it should be a great event.  The Prague mayor will be just one of many celebrities expected to attend.  For ordinary fans it will be an opportunity to have a good time without getting stressed out.

Our congratulations to all whose hard work contributed to the success of our beloved club.  It is hard to believe that the club that was in a coma just two years ago will be once again playing in the first division (where it belongs).
