Almost ten thousand fans came to celebrate with their team the promotion to the first league. Their opponent was the leading team of the second league, also assured of its promotion. Therefore, the game was just an opportunity to get together for the last time in the second league and celebrate the promotion and football.
And when it comes to celebrating football Bohemians were simply better. Coach Busta again pulled a rabbit out of his hat of tricks and inserted youngster Jan Moravec in the midfield. He did not have to wait too long for a payback – Moravec took possession of the ball and calmly fired in the upper corner of the net – 1:0 for Bohemka.
Shortly afterwards, Ivan Hašek was pulled down in the penalty box area and the referee did not hesitate – penalty. To the joy of all Bohemians fans, the goalkeeper Sňozík jogged across the field to take the shot. He did not give his colleague in Žižkov’s net a chance – 2:0 for Bohemka. And if it was not enough, Ivan Hašek added the third goal just before the break.
The second half continued in the same manner. Both teams played for fans and fans were showing their appreciation. Žižkov managed to score a goal, but Bohemians weren’t finished, yet. Bálek scored the fourth Bohemka goal in overtime, making the final score 4:1 for Bohemka. The injured captain of Bohemians, Slezák (broken arm), delighted fans by stepping symbolically on the field for the last few minutes of overtime.
As soon as the referee’s whistle ended the game, enthusiastic fans jumped on the field and joined their players in celebrations that included green-and-white fireworks. The party continued until the late evening hours before spilling into neighbouring pubs.
