Bohemka gained their first Gambrinus league point after a spirited performance on the field of one of the favourite teams to win the championship this season. The team was helped along by the constant cheering of hundreds of Bohemians fans who accompanied their team to Liberec. Judging from the game telecast, their cheering was so loud that it completely drowned out cheering by Liberec fans, if any.
Coach Busta prescribed a bit of unusual strategy for this game - playing with one forward (Bálek) allowed the team to play with five midfielders. The first half of the game proved him right – Bohemka played a very elastic game with good defense and quick attacks. Liberec on the other hand looked sluggish and almost confused. Even independent observers expressed their liking for the way Bohemians played at this stage of the game.
The second half changed the picture of the game. Liberec applied more pressure and Bohemka started making defensive mistakes. However, when all seemed to be lost, Lady Luck gave a helping hand - Liberec hit two posts and one crossbar against Bohemka’s one post.
Bohemians’ defender Lukáš will likely face a suspension for the punch he delivered to the face of one of the Liberec players. Although the referee did not see it, TV cameras did. It was a hit that Mohammad Ali would not be ashamed of.
Even the next Bohemians game will be played in front of TV cameras, so no punches, please. Their opponent will be Sigma Olomouc. The game will be played in Ďolíček on Monday, August 20 at 5:15 pm.
