Even after the third game in the first league, Bohemians are still waiting for the first victory and the first goal. Let’s hope that they won’t have to wait too long, although judging by their performance against Olomoc, this could be a case of wishful thinking. Olomouc’ coach Martin Pulpit knows Bohemians like the back of his hand; he is namely a big Bohemka fan, DFB member and attends Bohemka’s games regularly. Pulpit likes to play with three forwards, but when, at the end of the game, there is zero in the column “shots on goal” you know what his first priority in this game was.
Coach Busta on the other hand had to come up with something to break the stifling defense that Olomouc introduced in Ďolíček. His task was made more difficult by the absence of the forward Bálek who suffered an injury in practice. Also missing was the stopper Lukáš who was issued a four game stop for putting his boxing skills on display in the game against Liberec. Lukáš was replaced more or less successfully by Pávek. However, Škoda who replaced Bálek did not fare that well. He was not alone.
Bohemians started the game well, pressing Olomouc. The ball possession was heavily in favour of the home team. The only thing that was missing was a moment of surprise; slow build up could not surprise the defensively minded Olomouc team. The only scoring chance of the first half (and perhaps the whole game) was generated by Slezák who chested the ball craftily by the defender and fired a hard shot just over the crossbar.
The second half of the game deteriorated into a series of tackles and errant passes that nobody could enjoy watching. Olomouc actually scored a winning goal in the last minute of the game, but referees called it offside to the chagrin of Olomouc fans.
Bohemka has to play much better in the next games to succeed. It would be a tough task to stay in the first league with performances like this one.
