Each team approached the game differently. While Bohemka’s main goal is to prevent relegation to the second league, Sparta is aiming to win the Cup. This difference in approach was reflected in the starting line ups - while Sparta changed only two players compared to the last league game, Bohemka fielded only two players from the line up that started the last league game. Most other players were either substitutes or players of the reserve team.
Surprisingly, the young Bohemians players managed to keep pace with Sparta for most of the game. Sparta had to wait almost the whole first half for the first goal. Ironically, it was one of the most popular former Kangaroos, Karol Kisel, who scored from a free kick. Having been known for his affection for green-and-whites, Kisel did not celebrate the goal at all. The second goal scored by Došek with a few minutes to go put an end to Bohemka’s efforts to tie the game.
Bohemians fans have soundly outdone the home fans, both in numbers and the cheering. However, some of them were disappointed not so much by the Bohemians’ effort, but by the coaching staff decision to field what amounted to be the reserve team.
Interestingly enough, both teams will have an opportunity to impress their fans once again in about two weeks time, this time in the first division match. This game will be televised and, therefore, will be played on Monday, November 12. It starts at 5:15 pm.
